Quarter 3:

Thurs., 2/8:            Figurative Language Quiz Tomorrow--STUDY!!!

  • Study your notes and examples in your journal for the following: simile, metaphor, hyperbole, and personification.

  • Be sure you understand the difference between figurative language and literal language.

Mon., 2/5:  Homework:    DUE—(Tuesday, 2/6) 

*Be sure to write your responses in your journals.*

•Choose five (5) of the phrases from your “Simile and Metaphor” worksheet. 

•Jot down each of the five 5 phrases you selected into your journal.

•State whether each phrase is a simile or a metaphor.

•Explain the “literal” meaning of each phrase in your own words (analyze the meaning of each to show comprehension).

Wed., 1/24:  Tomorrow (Thursday, 1/25) you will take an i-Ready reading comprehension assessment so we can better gauge your reading levels in order to create lessons specifically designed to help you improve your reading and writing skills.  Take this seriously and try your best!!!

 

Tues., 1/23:  Upcoming Assessment (on Wed., 1/24)--Word Choice and Its Impact on Meaning and Tone.  This assessment will cover material we have been reviewing in class over the past few days.  You will be tested on your ability to write a detailed response for two texts (one informational and one literary).  You are well-prepared... Make sure you bring in all relevant materials to support you during this assessment!

Mon., 1/22:  Be sure to bring in materials related to your "Transcript" passage so we can complete reading and reviewing it in class tomorrow.

Quarter 2:

Reminder for Week of 11/13-11/17:  Make sure you are in class everyday this week so you can participate in and earn full credit for our "Tell Tale Heart Splash Walls."  Also, we will be continuing to work on our drafts for our Thematic Essays based upon "The Tell-Tale Heart' by Edgar Allan Poe.

 

Due Fri., 11/17:  Final draft of Thematic Essay.  This is worth a big portion of your grade for the 2nd Quarter.  Make sure you are present and get it completed on time in order to earn full credit.

 

Due Mon., 11/27:  First Person Perspective (narrative from the perspective of an ant or a turkey during Thanksgiving).

Due Wed., 12/6:  Be sure to bring your agendas to class tomorrow.  I will be checking to make sure you have them with you.  

Due Fri., 12/8:  Write a paragraph to respond to the following prompt:  Who is Ha?  

Write a paragraph that clearly describes Ha's personality traits.  Be sure to support your response with relevant text details from the novel Inside Out & Back Again.  

*Follow the RATE format when responding to this prompt.

Due Tues., 12/19:  Write a valid definition for each of the 13 words you were assigned from Inside Out & Back Again.

 

Tues., 12/19:  Make sure to get a good night's sleep in preparation for your ANet exam tomorrow.

 

Week of 1/2/2018--1/5/2018:  Be present and alert in class.  We will begin the writing process in preparation for composing our "Goals for The New Year Essay."  This will count as a quiz grade for the 2nd Quarter.   

 

Quarter 1:

Due Fri., 9/8:  Bag of Me Poem/Narratives

Due Mon., 9/11:  Summer Reading Projects

Due Fri., 9/15: Final draft of 9/11 poems. It should be written neatly on lined looseleaf paper with a proper heading.

Due Thurs., 10/5:  Read and annotate the last page of "The Most Dangerous Game."  You will be quizzed on your reading comprehension tomorrow.
